is it just me, it is after the end of oct, and wlm 8.5 is still working for me... it's kind of wierd... i thought it was supposed to stop working after the end of oct or something, but it still works... anyone's older wlm still work?
with this manditory upgrade, it was supposed to stop working before the end of october...
yeah, that is kind of weird. I had to upgrade in september, and have had nothing but trouble since then. For some reason, it says that the side by side configuration is incorrect
hmm, i haven't upgraded, and 8.5 still works. i'm not running an up to date version of jaws, so i'm stuck where i am because, i have no way of getting an updated coppy of jaws... so, i'm glad it still works...
ok, wlm just forced me to upgrade... a friend of mine did, and then she downloaded a script from plus and it works fine for her, so i'm going to give that a shot... sigh... good bye 8.5.. hello pile of crap
i think today is the day where they force you to upgrate. as far as i know, that is what happen in Australia anyway, or most of the peeps over here.
but you can get the way around of upgrating it, if you love using 8.5 that much.
it stay the same for most fiture, if you use the backdoor to keep your 8.5 running, the only problem it have is jaws no longer read the history convo with alt 1, to alt 0. you can only check your history convo using shift tap.
basic MSN doesn't work either, I mean the client that is with XP itself. I had to switch to miranda, because I have jaws eight. sorry if this looks messed up, jaws doesn't wanna read the eddit box that well
Mine is no longer working so if anyone knows how to get around this upgrade thing contact me. I don't have an up-to-date version of jaws nor can i get one. And this is the only means of contact for me to talk to some of my friends. I've tried the latest one before and it's extremely difficult to manage! So I'd really like to stick with this one if at all possible.
I just upgraded today. Ug. I tried using apatch but it doesn't have the thing to get rid of the dumb search field. For example, I used to be able to type in m and get to the contacts that started with m. Now I get the dumb search field. Does anyone know how to go around that? And I can't do alt-1-2-3 to read my messages either. I hate how the statuses are in front of the contacts but that doesn't bother me as much as the first 2 things I mentioned. If anyone knows how to fix these things, I would appreciate some pointers. Thanks muchly.

If you want to keep using live messenger 8.5 or 8.1 you can run it in compatibility mode for windows 2000 and it works fine. I tried it today and it works.
well, the jaws i use, had the 9 scripts for wlm, and those were for 8, so my friend sent me the script file for 10, as a txt file, i deleted what was there, and pasted in the file she sent me and it works fine!!!!
the alt 1 to alt 0 keystrokes work.
the only problem we are having is for some reason sounds don't work, when we type in slash sound then the sound we want it doesn't send, it just gives the id thingy... so that is odd...

something about the latest version and jaws.
1. jaws no longer read messages from alt 1 to alt 0, i believe is something to do with window7 short cut key itself and jaws11.
2. you can used old sound on the latest messenger, before you overwrite the old messenger by installing the new one, go on the messenger foulder and select all the sounds that you fancy, copy it to somewhare, and pace it back to messenger foulder ones you have the new messenger going.
3. the typing sound for messenger on jaws is no longer exist. (this is with wlm14, and jaws10).
4. can't get messenger+ working at the moment, deal to the update, also the pretend version won't work with messenger+ too. haven't figure the way around this, if anyone have a better idea on this, please kindly share it out? :)
Yes, and certain versions of JAWS 10, use the last build of JAWS 10 if you want it to work with the new windows live messenger, but there is good news people! You don't have to upgrade, there is an easier way if you still have windows live messenger 8.5. 1, locate the windows live messenger icon 2., press you're context menu key, and go to properties, then go to the compatibility mode tab. Once there, check the box that says run this program in compatibility mode, and tab until you see a combo box with things in it, and choose windows 2000, and click ok, launch the program again, wait for it to configure the settings for you,(shouldn't take very long), and then sign in. And Bam! No forced upgrade! As for Windows 7, not sure if it has a compatibility mode, will have to check on that. And michelle, forgot what that patch is, use to have it, but its been years since I've used it.
I've been instructing people on the compatibility mode all afternoon. I said something about it on my status message, and everybody wanted to know. I hope it's not illegal, or is this something that most people wont know about.
OK Michelle, the patch program that I used a few years for WLM was called A-patch.
compatibility mode is not illegal, cause it come with wlm itself.
for window7, you can run it on compatibility mode either to xp or vista for certain softwares, not too sure as how it goes with wlm itself though.
No it's not illegal. No fix is. I have spoken on these boards about the new messenger, so go look. Your key strokes have changed due to win 7 needing new ones so WLM and Jaws changed or I should say they are different for Jaws. If you can see it's no deal. I know it will work back to Jaws 9, but not 8, and it just updated again, so. Read about what's new in Jaws 11 for the key strokes, and then read about messenger in the windows live pages. It might help you all that can not upgrade or do not wish to. Also there is a board here on geeks that says how to maybe get by it as well.
I tried the suggestion mentioned in post 13, but nothing changed. It still says an upgrade is needed in order to continue.
sighs, the only problem i'm having is with messenger plus, when i want to send a sound, it doesn't work... but, other than that, i'm not having a problem with jaws 10 and wlm...
My 8 one works but for some reason it keeps knocking me off my connection. What should I do?
